PRESIDENT UPDATE & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President Jasmine Mills kicked off the meeting with the 4-way test and reminded us the following:

  • Goal for every member to be on a committee. Get plugged in!
  • Lunch purchase policy:
    • If absent but already paid, members can buy lunches and pay via Venmo/cash to Treasurer at $10 discounted price.
    • Absentees need to alert Leigh beforehand @ leigh.acevedo@gmail.com

DISTRICT EVENTS:
  • Registration is open for District conference in Jekyll - lots of fun activities and dynamic speakers: April 26th-28th, 2024.
    • Deadline for hotel discount is March 26.
    • 3 Credits per full day of attendance at district conference
  • Oslo Summer 2024 GRSP Scholarship Opens for Georgia college students
    • Spend summer attending school & exchanging cultural customs in Norway, 6/24 - 8/2/2024
    • Application is now open & closes Jan. 5, 2024.
    • Applicants must have completed sophomore year of college by Spring 2024 & have the recommendation of a Georgia Rotarian.

    • Katie Rudder Fender gave her Classification talk on Feb. 6: She is the Director of Community Outreach and Development at South University. She manages their corporate education program and partners with the majority of Savannah’s major employers in providing discounted programing and education. She considers herself the “front door” of the University. She’s also a student at South getting a MPA (Masters of Public Administration.) She has worked as a recruiter, the American Red Cross, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and the St. Joseph/Candler Foundation. She’s lived in Savannah for 10 years and her husband Robert is a born and raised Savannahian. She graduated from USC and is from Annapolis, Maryland. Katie played basketball in high school. She’s over 6 feet tall! She goes to CYCLEBAR most nights and is a “gas station foodie.” She gave a special thanks to Kristen Crawley and Jamie Arkins for being her sponsors and she’s very excited about joining the group!

YOUTH SERVICES:
  • Read United on Feb. 2: 60 Schools, 986 Classrooms, 19,650 Books
  • Interact club of St. Andrew's Upper School officially received its certificate of organization!
  • Upper School Interact Club is reading to 2nd and PK4 students on Thursday, February 22, as a literacy service project.
  • GRSP: Sonali, a young woman from Sri Lanka, arrives in August! Her brother was a former GRSP student. Committee is seeking a host. Sponsor clubs: Metro, Savannah South, Richmond Hill, & Savannah East
      LEGACY PROJECT:
      • Metro's 15th anniversary in 2027, currently saving $ for this
      • Currently have 8 nominated projects
      • Project nominees are acquiring more information from “owners” - top 2-3 will be presented to club
