How well do you think you know Statesboro? Did you know there’s a Smithsonian Institution there? We’ll visit the U.S. National Tick Collection, the world’s largest collection of blood-sucking ectoparasites. Then we’ll see hawks, owls and falcons at Georgia Southern University’s Raptor Center. Hunter Cattle Company will give us a tour of their farm which provides beef to many great restaurants in the region.
This trip includes:
• A tour of the Smithsonian Institution’s U.S. National Tick Collection, located at Georgia Southern University
• A tour of Georgia Southern University’s Center for Wildlife Education and the Lamar Q. Ball, Jr. Raptor Center
The U.S. National Tick Collection is not normally open to the public. Lunch (on your own) will be at a location to be determined. This event will benefit Ogeechee Riverkeeper, the club's 2018-2019 annual service partner, and the club's global grant, providing desks to schools in India. The event organizer, Orlando Montoya, will provide transportation for up to four people. After four people, transportation volunteers will be solicited.
