Loop It Up Book Boxes! Loop It up provides book boxes for lower elementary students. The students will paint and decorate their boxes and then "shop" for books to take home. The box acts as their very own personal bookshelf at home to promote reading outside of school hours. Read more HERE. We'll meet up to help wrangle the students with help from the Loop It Up staff and faculty from the school to bring out their creativity and promote this important literacy endeavor! It's absolutely fine to get paint on your Metro T-Shirt, so throw that in the car and prepare to get messy! Please show up as close to 2pm as possible. We will likely be done with cleanup before 4pm. 18 and over only, please. After you sign up here, please take the extra step to register with Loop It Up at THIS LINK and use the lock code metro. There are some logistics with SCCPSS that we need to make sure to follow and this will ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day of the service. |

Sign up for an individual time slot with Read United Day 2026. Read United Day is the flagship initiative of Read United, reaching students in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties to promote literacy and a lifelong love of reading. Nearly 1,000 United Way volunteers visit classrooms to read aloud and leave behind a new book for each class. In Bryan, Effingham, Liberty, and Long counties, every pre-K through 2nd-grade student also receives a new book to take home, helping to close the gap for children who may not have books at home. In Chatham County, United Way will continue our pilot reading competition with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, designed to motivate and reward students for reading more books. Read United Day 2026 will benefit more than 20,000 children across our region—and your support makes it possible. Steps to Sign-up for Read United Day 2026

Located on the bank of Savannah’s picturesque Moon River, Pin Point is a community of Gullah/Geechee residents who have inhabited the area since the late 1800s. There, visitors will find Pin Point Heritage Museum, which tells the story of this community through engaging exhibitions in the former A.S. Varn & Son Oyster and Crab Factory where many of Pin Point’s community members worked. Since its founding, the museum, which is a part of the Coastal Heritage Society, has welcomed visitors to learn about the history and culture of this tight knit African-American fishing community, presenting a unique opportunity to learn about Gullah language, foodways and traditions. David Jones, the site administrator at Pin Point Heritage Museum, has worked to educate the public about this local cultural treasure since he came onboard initially as a resource educator in August of 2018. Through the years, Jones has relished every opportunity to engage the public in learning about Savannah’s long standing Gullah/Geechee community at Pin Point. |

Join us to help decorate Tharros Place for Valentine's Day (or rather Galentine's Day)! We'll also do a couple of projects around the place to make sure things are running smoothly. They have very little love-themed decor on hand, so let's get creative and bring the love! If you have a small step ladder or step stool, please bring that along as well. Tape, monofiliment, hooks, etc. could also be helpful, but only if you have them on hand. For the privacy of Tharros place residents, the address will not be released until you have registered and signed an NDA. The NDA will be emailed to you after you register. If you have volunteered at Tharros Place in the past, you can simply sign another NDA on site at the event. Kids ages 12 and over are welcome. Wear your rotary t-shirt and join in the fun! |

Our annual Rotary Oyster Roast, commonly referred to as, Roastary is back after a year’s pause, and we can’t wait to gather together again. Roastary will be hosted at the home of Metro members Cari and Patrick Phelps. The proceeds from this event will benefit our youth programs, including GRSP, Rotary Youth Exchange, and Rotary Youth Leadership Academy. These programs enrich the lives of our students and our own, as we learn from one another, make the world feel a little smaller, and promote peace through understanding different cultures.
We hope you’ll join us for great food, great fellowship, and an even greater cause! |
