DESCRIPTION:Read United is United Way of the Coastal Empire’s programmati
c response to the promotion of Early Childhood Literacy in our region. Rea
d United Day is the hallmark event\, an initiative that seeks to place boo
ks in the home of every child in Pre-K through second grade in our region.
The program focuses on children in these lower grade levels because we re
cognize that an early response to the literacy gap that exists in homes of
many low-income households can enable children in these homes to succeed.
Read United Day will occur in Chatham County on Friday\, February 2\,
2024.   Sign-up to read to a pre-k through second grade classrooms. Each
shift is only 30 minutes and all books will be provided.  You just need t
o show up and read!   Sign up directly here: www.unitedwayvolunteers.org/
aem.   What to expect after you sign up: United Way team will send a conf
irmation e-mail with details to include: time\, location\, classroom\, tea
cher's name\, etc. Upon arrival to the school\, you will receive a United
Way Volunteers lanyard and a bag of books for your classroom. That bag wil
l have a hardback book for the volunteer to read (and then leave with the
