Nearly two dozen members of the Metro Savannah Rotary Club and their families turned out Aug. 27 to do some end-of-summer cleaning for our new annual service partner, Fresh Air Home.

Rotarians scraped old paint off of benches, hauled piles of debris and helped make minor repairs during the event, the first of many service projects with the Tybee-based nonprofit.

After a long, hot morning of work, many of us then hit the beach, located 100 or so feet away. Fresh Air Home provides a beach camp experience for nearly 400 children each year who might not otherwise get to experience the ocean.

Metro Savannah each year chooses an annual service partner to focus our volunteer efforts, and to be the recipient of a $10,000 donation to be raised at various events throughout the year. What a great start to a great partnership!
